PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Minbos Resources is advancing the development of its Cabinda phosphate project, in Angola, awarding a $4.25-million engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract for the project.

The contract was awarded to Brazil’s EPC Engenharia and its Angolan subsidiary EPX Angola. The contractor already has staff on the ground at Cabinda and work is already under way with clearing of the project site and perimeter fencing completed. Earthworks and civil works will start immediately.

The contract covers the provision of full EPCM services for the build of the phosphate fertiliser plant at Cabinda.

A definitive feasibility study estimated that the project would require a capital investment of $48.5-million based on a 187 500 t/y operating capacity, delivering 236 000 t/y of fertiliser over a project life of some 20 years, based on a maiden ore reserve of 4.72-million tonnes at 30.1% phosphates at the Cácata Phosphate mine.
