JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Metallica Minerals has appointed Queensland-based mining executive Simon Slesarewich as CEO, effective July 13.

He would succeed retiring founding MD Andrew Gillies, who was stepping down from the position after more than ten years. Gillies would, however, continue serving as nonexecutive director of the company.

Slesarewich, who was currently a director at Larkham Resources, had more than 18 years’ experience across Queensland’s resources commodities sector, including a strong background in operational and executive roles within both mining and contracting entities.

He held a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) degree from the University of Queensland, as well as graduate diplomas in business administration and applied finance and investment.

He was previously CEO of Northern Discovery and Boardwalk Resources.

As CEO, Slesarewich would assume responsibility for the management of the company under the guidance of the Metallica board and would manage and drive the company’s transition to becoming a successful producer.
