Two workers at Eskom’s Medupi power station were shot and wounded on Thursday morning, Limpopo police said.

One was hit in the stomach and another slightly wounded on the ear when shots were fired as they were waiting for their transport in Marapong, near Lephalale, around 05:00, Colonel Ronel Otto said.

“The suspect fled on foot and his is currently still unknown,” she said.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said it was not clear if the shooting was related to the disciplinary hearings for a group of about 2 000 workers who took part in an illegal strike in March.

It was also not known if the two injured worked for Eskom or a contractor.

“We do not know who is carrying out this intimidation,” he added.
