BuTyl Technology aims to become the worlds most admired manufacturer and distributor of butyl tapes.

Butyl is a synthetic rubber made from isobutylene and small portions of isoprene. It is a pressure sensitive product and can be modified by adding elasticisers, tackifiers, resins and fillers. While it is a well-proven technology, butyls are still new, and their nature and characteristics are yet to be fully understood and applied by many industries.

The company has a purpose-built manufacturing facility located in KwaZulu-Natal, meaning that it is closer to raw materials suppliers and a harbour on its doorstep for the import and export of materials and products.

The resulting cost savings can be passed onto customers. The factory is manned by experienced staff and BuTyl Technology can provide short production lead times, which is an essential market requirement.

Providing a product that offers quality and consistency comes from BuTyl Technology’s commitment and belief in its product offering and the high standards of manufacture and service on which it prides itself. The company highlights that ensuring customer satisfaction in its products and services is its highest priority.

BuTyl Technology offers a comprehensive standard range catering for all uses. The company explains that it can tailor butyl tape to a customer’s specifications – width, thickness, tackiness. It can also supply packing for the customer’s brand or house brand.

BuTyl Technology ensures consistent supply and knowledgeable assistance from locally-based staff.

Butyl Technology combines its experience and continued product development to provide its consumers with products that match the specific applications required. Butyl tape is chemically inert, and as such will resist oxidation and will remain permanently elastic and resistant to cracking. It also will not degrade under ultraviolet light.

Further, Butyl Tape can be painted. It can adhere to metal, glass, porcelain, concrete, plastic, polycarbonate, wood, and marble.

Butyl tape, in its various forms, offers significant versatility in use, and has applications in a variety of industries. In its most obvious form, it is a highly successful method of bonding together membranes for both building base and roofing applications.

The heating and ventilation market has found this product to be preferable to other methods of sealing flanges on ducting, primarily because its ease of application, solvent free formulation, longevity, and large joint movement capability.

In bead form, it finds effective uses in both the glazing and horticultural industries, while the caravan industry use it for sealing outer skins and around mouldings. Butyl tape is also widely used in sealing in the motor industry.
