JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The final key infrastructure at TSX-listed Diamcor Mining’s Krone-Endora at Venetia project, in South Africa, has been completed with the installation of an 8.4 km main power supply line.

The power line, constructed by State-owned power utility Eskom, would replace the diesel generators currently being used at the project and would provide immediate operational cost savings and reduced downtime.

The emerging rough diamonds producer installed an additional 700 m power line to support the in-field screening plant.

The diesel generators would now provide standby power at both the main plant and the in-field screening plant.

“The installation of the main power line to the project marks the successful completion of the final infrastructure item for the project and one that will provide immediate benefits to operating cost and reliability," said Diamcor president and CEO Dean Taylor.

He added that a crushing circuit at the main plant was currently being installed. Once complete, it was expected that the circuit would increase the processing of larger size fractions and provide additional opportunities for the recovery of larger diamonds.

The group recovered four additional “special” diamonds of 12.82 ct, 17.75 ct, 20.48 ct, and 48.26 ct during the ongoing testing and commissioning work.

This followed the May recovery of the first 11.23 ct special diamond during initial testing of material in the 1 mm to 10 mm size fraction, and the July recovery of two additional special diamonds of 13.38 ct and 15.16 ct during the early processing of material in the 12 mm to 28 mm size fraction.

Diamcor has, to date, recovered and tendered a total of 6 702.9 ct of diamonds for total gross proceeds of $926 324.03 from the initial testing and commissioning exercises.

The company had also delivered 3 460 ct of diamonds for tender and sale in the coming weeks.
