Project Description
The project involves the construction of Zambia’s first coal-fired thermal power plant.
The power plant will produce 300 MW into the national grid from two 150 MW coal-fired units and will be built near Zambia’s largest coal mine.
A transmission line will link the power station to the Muzuma substation.

$650-million.
Duration
The first unit is scheduled for completion by October 2014 and the second by January 2015.
Latest Developments
China’s Sepco Electric Power Constriction Corporation has begun work on the power station and the transmission line project, after Zambia’s energy regulation board approved the transmission line from the power station to the Muzuma substation.
Sepco is building the project on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, the scope of which includes planning, design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, supply, inspection and testing.
