JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum producer Lonmin announced on Thursday that its chairperson Roger Phillimore would retire during the course of 2014.

Phillimore, who had been appointed as a director of Lonmin in 1997, as deputy chairperson in 2002 and as chairperson in 2009, would remain in office until his successor had been appointed, Lonmin said, adding that the selection process had been initiated.

“The immediate challenges this year have been to restore stability and rebuild production after the tragic events at Marikana last year, and to select a new CEO. Each of those objectives has been successfully accomplished and I am pleased that we have been able to appoint Ben Magara to lead Lonmin into a new era. After 16 years, it is time for me to move on,” Phillimore commented.
