Project Description
The project will help meet the surging demand for domestic and international electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries.
The Mega-Flex facility will be able to process diverse lithium feedstock, including lithium from recycled batteries.
Albemarle expects the facility to produce about 50 000 t/y of battery-grade lithium hydroxide from multiple sources, with the potential to expand up to 100 000 t/y.
Production at the facility will support the manufacturing of an estimated 2.4-million electric vehicles a year. The site also supports the Inflation Reduction Act, a federal law enacted in 2022 to incentivise the localisation of critical minerals in North America.
Potential Job Creation
Albemarle expects the facility to create more than 300 new jobs. The project will also create more than 1 500 construction jobs.
Capital Expenditure
The project will require an initial investment of $1.3-billion.
Planned Start/End Date
Construction is expected to begin late in 2024.
