Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) import terminal and handling facility, South Africa.

Client
Avedia Energy.

Project Description
The project involves the construction and management of an LPG import terminal and handling facility at the Port of Saldanha on South Africa’s West Coast.

This will be the first dedicated LPG import facility, in recent times, on the 4 300 km shoreline, stretching from Luanda, in Angola, to Richards Bay, on South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal coast, and the only storage facility of its kind in the Western Cape.

The facility will provide an overall storage capacity of 8 000 t, which will boost the existing import LPG storage capacity in South Africa by at least 80%. This facility will be the largest LPG import facility in South Africa.

Value
R300-million.

Duration
Construction of the terminal is expected to start in June, with completion expected in December.

Latest Developments
Avedia’s first LPG storage tanks were expected to arrive and be offloaded and stored on Avedia’s site, adjacent to the Saldanha Bay port, in the last week of April.

Once the environmental-impact assessment is complete, construction will begin.
