PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner St Barbara has announced the resignation of its CEO and MD Tim Lehany, effective from the end of June.

The company said that a structure succession process to replace Lehany, who would assist St Barbara with an orderly transition until the end of August, was well advanced and an early appointment of a new MD and CEO was anticipated.

Lehany’s replacement would have to consolidate the operational excellence of the Leonora project, as well as assessing and resolving strategic options for the future of the Pacific operations, the gold miner said.

St Barbara is facing operational issues at its Gold Ridge mine, in the Solomon Islands, after operations were halted in April owing to torrential rains, and the government subsequently refused the re-entry of certain personnel to site.

Operations at Gold Ridge were now set to resume after the company and the government reached an agreement which saw the immigration ban being lifted.
