Leading global inverter and renewable energy storage solution (ESS) supplier Sungrow launched its SG125CX-P2 inverter earlier this month. The solution is the new generation of its commercial and industrial (C&I) photovoltaic (PV) inverter solution, which is specially designed for diversified C&I rooftop applications. In addition, Sungrow introduced its cutting-edge residential solution, which is a combination of its single-phase hybrid inverter SH6.0RS and the SBR high-voltage batteries.

“The SG125CX-P2 is a new premium solution that offers higher yields, improved safety and more flexible usage to our customers, and is expected to lead to further growth of the South African C&I solar market,” explains Sungrow Southern Africa director Phyllis Yang.

The SG125CX-P2 improves the maximum input current to 30A per Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), which enhances the DC generating capacity and is compatible with high-powered, large format PV modules, thereby creating a higher yield. In addition, the 125 kW solution is equipped with 12 MPPTs, which track points of the highest power accurately to ensure the PV system works constantly at the optimal power generation state. As a result, the overall yield increases.

The inverter solution is resilient to harsh conditions such as intense heat owing to an IP66 protection level and C5 anti-corrosion capacity.

Yang notes that Sungrow offers several products that are tailored for the Southern African diversified markets. Its residential solution perfectly combines the single-phase hybrid inverter SH6.0RS and the SBR high-voltage batteries.

“This holistic solution enables the seamless switch to the off-grid mode during power outages, providing a flexible, durable and safe power supply for local residents during the day and night, therefore reducing the dependence on the public grid and cutting energy costs,” she says.

Yang reveals that the solution can be monitored and managed via Sungrow's iSolarCloud platform, which shows real-time and detailed plant updates, enables customers to check energy flow and self-consumption, and easily controls the renewable energy asset.

Regarding the utility scale market, Sungrow expects an increase in growth in the Southern African renewables market owing to the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, which was started in an effort to fill the current short term supply gap.

The company offers its "1+X" modular inverter for the utility scale PV market. The product can be configured up to 8.8 MW with 1.1 MW modular capacity and one MPPT for each unit, making the plant design flexible and easier to operate and maintain.

“Our liquid cooling ESS PowerTitan system, meanwhile, has been tailored for utility scale ESS demand and works excellently in terms of safety, profitability and flexibility when coupled with PV plants, solving the intermittency and volatility for solar power,” says Yang.

Sungrow sees the Southern Africa region as a strategically significant market with substantial potential. The company has been providing high-quality and innovative PV and ESS solutions for utility-scale, C&I and residential customers since its Southern African branch was established in 2017.

Thus far, it has supplied cumulatively 1 GW of installations in the Southern Africa region, occupying the number one PV market share.

Sungrow is the leading player in the C&I PV market with a comprehensive product portfolio and is engaged in several local C&I projects to meet the electricity demand of these facilities’ daily operations.

Yang notes that the crippling power shortages in South Africa pose an existential threat to the economy and social fabric of society.

“When more renewable energy is added to the power grid, the stability of the power grid will be affected. Energy storage is ideal to solve the intermittency and volatility of solar power. Our solar-plus-storage application is a market trend and because Sungrow is one of only a few suppliers that have expertise in both PV and ESS, we aim to lead the technical innovation and applications of solar-plus-storage installations in the utility scale, C&I and residential sectors,” notes Yang.

“As the number one player in the C&I PV market with a comprehensive product portfolio, we firmly believe that through these industry-leading solutions, as well as our mature distribution network and our dedicated service system, Sungrow will enable further growth of this strategically important market,” she adds.

Sungrow also has a dedicated local service team of experienced service professionals with a 48-hour response time. This comprehensive service team operates from a fully equipped testing, repairing, spare parts replacement and warehousing centre.

The company’s established service network enables lifecycle maintenance for solar plants. To empower its customers, Sungrow also organises onsite and online technical training to improve technical knowledge and skill sets. The company partners with an increasing number of local partners to ensure a broader reach to more end-users with a flexible, durable and safe power supply.
