Project Description
The Leach XPress project proposed by Columbia Gas includes an estimated 258 km of new 51-cm- to 91-cm-diameter pipeline. The proposal includes:
• two natural gas pipelines and loops, in Ohio;
• abandonment in place of a segment of one existing natural gas pipeline, in Ohio;
• construction of three new compressor stations, in Ohio and West Virginia;
• modification of two compressor units, in Ohio, and the abandonment of one compressor unit at an existing compressor station, in West Virginia;
• thirteen bidirectional pig launcher and/or receiver facilities – a pig is an internal tool that can be used to clean and dry a pipeline and/or to inspect it for damage or corrosion;
• nine main line valves;
• five odorisation sites at facilities located along Columbia Gas’s existing pipeline system; and
• various appurtenant and auxiliary facilities.

The project will also include the abandonment in place of 45 km of an existing 51-cm-diameter natural gas pipeline, beginning at the existing Crawford compressor station, in Fairfield County, traversing south to Hocking County, before terminating at the existing McArthur regulator station, in Vinton County.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has prepared a draft environmental-impact statement (EIS) for the Leach XPress and Rayne XPress expansion projects.
