JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – German speciality chemicals group Lanxess has reached an agreement with employees at its chrome mine in Rustenburg, ending a week of industrial action.

According to the terms of an initial agreement with the National Union of Mineworkers and Congress of South African Trade Unions, all employees would receive a once-off performance payment.

This payment was related to the present and future performance of the mine, as well as safety targets, and was presented to employees by union representatives on Friday morning.

Workers were expected to resume work on Monday.

The strike, which was declared illegal by a court interdict, began on May 16, when several hundred employees demanded an extra bonus payment in addition to the existing signed production bonus agreement between the company and the trade unions.
