Name of the Project
Kudu power station project.

Location
The project is located near Oranjemund, in Namibia.

Client
Nambia Power Corporation.

Project Description
The proposed power station was resized from 850 MW to 442.5 MW in April this year.

The  Kudu gasfield, located off the coast of Namibia, which contains an estimated 3.3-trillion cubic feet of gas, is central to the country's plans to reduce its dependence on electricity imports. The gas will be delivered to the power plant through a 170-km-long pipeline.

NamPower will buy power from the plant under long-term power purchase agreements for local and regional use.

Value
The power plant is expected to cost an estimated N$9.4-billion ($760-million), down from the previous estimate of N$15.6-billion.

Duration
Not stated.

Latest Developments
Nambia Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo has said that the project might not be viable, as a result years of delays to the related export agreements.

"If it was viable it would have happened already. If it did not happen for the last 25 years, there is something wrong," he has said.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
None stated.

On Budget and on Time?
The project has been delayed by about 25 years.
