Client
Nambia Power Corporation (Nampower).

Project Description
The project involves the development of the Kudu gasfield, located off Namibia, which contains an estimated 1.3-trillion cubic feet of gas.

The gas produced will be delivered to an 800 MW combined-cycle gas-powered station, 25 km outside Oranjemund, through a 170-km-long pipeline.

The project will be connected to the Namibian and South African grids.

NamPower will buy power from the plant under long-term power purchase agreements for local and regional use.

Value
The project is estimated at $1-billion.

Duration
The utility expects the power station to be commissioned by 2017/18.

Latest Developments
NamPower has started the prequalification process for the provision of a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solution for the Kudu gas-to-power project by inviting qualified companies to tender in this regard.

Interested parties will also have to complete a qualification questionnaire to be included in NamPower’s shortlist of prequalified bidders.

The enquiry documents will be issued to prequalified bidders in the second quarter of this year and the EPC turnkey contractor will be selected by the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the utility signed a project development agreement with the Kudu Gas Field Upstream Developers on March 1, facilitating timelines to achieve financial close within the next 12 months.

The utility has appointed Ernst & Young, Strategic International Advisory, DLA Piper and ESB International as its transaction advisors.

Interested parties have until May 3 to submit their bids.
