Project Description
The project involves the development of the Kudu gasfield, located off Namibia, which contains an estimated 1.3-trillion cubic feet of gas.

The gas produced will be delivered to an 800 MW CCGT power station, 25 km outside Oranjemund, through a 170-km-long pipeline.

The project will be connected to the Namibian and South African grids.

NamPower will buy power from the plant under long-term power purchase agreements for local and regional use.

The project is estimated at $1-billion.

Duration
The project is expected to be commissioned in 2017/18.

Latest Developments
NamPower and Zambian private power utility Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC), have signed a joint development agreement and a power export agreement for the Kudu power project.

The CEC’s expression of interest to offtake about 200 MW to 300 MW from the Kudu power project and the subsequent discussions and negotiations has been ongoing since 2011, with the term sheet negotiations concluded in October last year.
