Kitimat liquefied natural gas project, Canada
Name and Location
Kitimat liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, Canada.
Client
Apache Canada and Chevron Canada.
Apache will operate upstream development.
Chevron will market LNG and operate the plant and pipeline assets.
Project Description
Kitimat hosts about 19-trillion cubic feet of combined marketable/technically recoverable natural gas resources.
The proposed LNG project will include natural gas liquefaction, LNG storage and marine onloading facilities.
Initial plant capacity is estimated at five-million metric tons a year of LNG, with the potential to increase to ten-million metric tons a year or more.
Natural gas will be delivered through a 14 km pipeline, lateral from the Pacific Trail Pipelines, which will connect to the existing Spectra Energy Westcoast pipeline system.
Value
Not stated.
Duration
A front-end engineering and design (Feed) is currently being undertaken and, when concluded, the partners will make a final investment decision on whether to proceed with the project.
Main construction is expected to start following that decision. The Feed study will explore the feasibility and timing of constructing a second LNG train.
Latest Developments
Fluor Corporation, in joint venture with JGC, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract by Chevron for the project.
The project scope includes the completion of the existing Feed package by finalising value-improving concepts for the proposed LNG facility.
The scope of work also includes detailed engineering and procurement services for the initial phases of the project.
Key Contracts and Suppliers
KBR (Feed); Fluor and JGC.
