PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold production at the Talang Santo operation, in Indonesia, decreased during the three months to June, compared with the previous quarter, owing to difficult mining conditions.

Owner Kingsrose Mining reported on Thursday that gold production during the quarter had reached 5 763 oz, down from the 6 409 oz produced in the previous quarter, while silver production reached 10 433 oz, compared with the 11 509 oz delivered in the three months to March.

Kingsrose noted that gold production during the quarter was primarily affected by very high volumes of water in the Talang Santo pit, delaying access to scheduled high-grade development.

“Underground mining is not without its challenges, and the recent efficient management of the high volume of water in the 4 Level, with zero lost time injuries, is a testament to the quality of our operations team,” said Kingsrose MD Scott Huffadine.

He noted that despite the delay, Kingsrose was making good progress on 4 Level and particularly the 5 Level haulage shaft, which would be key in accessing the previously identified high-grade zones of the Talang Santo system in the coming year.

“We are making good progress in having completed our first year since production started at Talang Santo. To have produced a second consecutive quarter of reconciled mine grade of over 12 g/t gold, which represents twice our stated mineral resource grade, is particularly encouraging.”

During the 2016 financial year, Kingsrose was expected to produce between 27 000 oz and 35 000 oz of gold.
