PERTH (miningweekly.com) - Precious metals miner Kingsrose Mining has resumed partial operations at its Talang Santo gold/silver mine, in Indonesia, following a fatality in September last year.

Operations at Talang Santo were suspended and the Indonesian regulatory authorities conducted an investigation into the accident.

Kingsrose said this week that its 85%-held subsidiary PT Natarang Mining had now received permission to start various development activities pertaining to maintenance and safety at the Talang Santo mine.

The work would include the completion of a water sump and pumping station, the development of an emergency egress system, and the completion of underground evacuation shelters.

The miner said that permission to undertake this work was an important step, as it would enable ore production to rapidly ramp-up, once full mining activities were under way.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian authorities had outlined a series of measures that would have to be completed prior to full mining activities resuming on site.

Kingsrose had now updated the Way Linggo project’s feasibility study and updated its environmental-impact study for Talang Santo, and submitted these to the relevant government departments.

The full reviews of the studies were expected to be completed by the end of February, with full mining operations expected to resume by March.

The Talang Santo mine is the second production operation at the Way Linggo project, and has a resource of some 287 489 oz of gold and 894 951 oz of silver. During the year ended June, the Way Linggo project produced 37 650 oz of gold and 432 754 oz of silver.
