PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Metallurgical testwork at copper miner KBL Mining’s Mineral Hill project, in New South Wales, has delivered a marketable lead/silver/gold concentrate, in addition to the copper/gold concentrate expected at the mine.

The company reported on Tuesday that these trials supported the potential production versatility from high-grade polymetallic mineralisation at the SOZ lode, which continues to deliver encouraging results through the current underground diamond drilling programme.

By investing about A$100 000, KBL has reconfigured the existing process plant from three copper flotation banks with excess capacity, to two fully copper flotation banks, as well as a lead circuit.

To complete the new configuration, redundant storage tanks and a 4 m thickener were recommissioned. KBL said that concentrate production was now campaigned through the existing filter for both copper and lead.

Additional capacity could be installed in the future, the miner said.

Meanwhile, KBL noted that the lower-than-expected copper grades experienced during the transition to the SOZ during January resulted in reduced production, which had persisted into the first half of February.

The miner noted that production during March had seen a steady improvement, although the first quarter shortfalls were expected to be recovered during April and May.
