Project Description
The project involves building a 1,6-million-cubic-metre dam for regulating the flow of the Niger river, to provide the water needed for irrigation and other essential uses.
The project will also produce electricity as a by-product that will make the structure as profitable as possible.
The project will restore the river valley ecosystems, irrigate 122 000 ha and produce 629 GWh/y of electricity on completion.
Value
The total value of the project has not been confirmed; however, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a combined loan and grant to the value $62-million.
