Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 1.6-billion-cubic-metre-capacity dam in Kandadji, located about 187 km upstream from the capital, Niamey. It includes the development of 1 700 ha of irrigated land downstream from the dam, and the implementation of a resettlement scheme for people who will be displaced during the construction phase.

Niger has secured $190.39-million in financing to build the Kandadji dam, which is expected to make the country self-sufficient in power and boost agricultural production. The construction of the dam had initially been awarded to Russia's Zarubezhvodstroy OJSC, but the Niger government broke off the contract in
July 2013, alleging the firm had not met its commitments.
