IVRS boosted by rise of dam levels
The water levels of the Vaal dam have significantly increased from 78.8% last week to the current 85.8%.
Last year at this time, the water level of the dam, which is one of 14 that form part of the Integrated Vaal River System (IVRS), stood at 36.2%.
Similarly, the water levels of the Grootdraai dam surged to 88.2%, from the 72.5% recorded last week and 84.6% recorded during the comparative week last year.
The Bloemhof dam also saw an increase this week, from 91.3% last week to 94.9% this week. During the same week last year, the dam was at 80.9%.
Meanwhile, the Katse dam increased from 71.6% last week, and 25.2% last year, to the current 77.8%.
The Sterkfontein dam’s water levels remained at 100.5% week-on-week, higher than the 94.8% reported in the comparative week last year.
The Mohale dam water levels also continued to improve to 45.1% this week from last week’s 38.5%. Last year at the same time it was at 4.4%.
The collective upsurge in the dams has had a positive impact on the levels of the IVRS, which rose from 81.5% last week to 86.2% this week. This time last year, the system stood at 57.2%.
