A general rise in vacancy levels in the engineering and natural resources jobs market has indicated that confidence has started to return to the industry, specialist recruitment consultancy Robert Walters’ Engineering and Natural Resources Job Market Update reports.

Released each quarter, the report noted increased demand for professionals with manufacturing, maintenance, quality and production skills, as employers continued to focus on improving existing equipment rather than buying new machinery.

In addition, the report observed a strong demand for engineering sales specialists who could directly influence revenue generation and new business growth.

Despite the increase in vacancies, salaries in the engineering and natural resources jobs market remained flat.

Robert Walters Engineering and Natural Resources recruitment manager Chantel Levey-Cilliers said the firm expected these trends to continue until the end of the year.

“We also expect hiring levels across the manufacturing and construction industries to increase in 2013, while demand should also rise for core engineering roles and sales professionals,” she commented.
