The four candidates approved in March by Parliament to fill the long-vacant councillor positions at the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) have officially started their four-year term.

Botlenyana Mokhele, Paris Mashile, Peter Zimri and Keabetswe Modimoeng effectively started on April 3 and were sworn in by Judge De Villiers on Thursday.

This followed the expiry of the office terms of councillors William Currie and Joseph Lebooa at the end of September 2014 and that of William Stucke and Ntombizodwa Ndhlovu in October 2014. Dr Marcia Socikwa resigned in January last year.

Icasa now had seven councillors in office following a vigorous appointment process that had started in February 2014.
