International Air Transport Authority (Iata) director-general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac on Tuesday indicated the need for smarter regulations, to contend with growing regulatory challenges within the aviation industry.

In a speech delivered at the Centre for Aviation Aeropolitical and Regulatory Affairs Summit in Doha, Qatar, he also stressed the need for more governments to join the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation and the importance of ensuring that its implementation is fully aligned with the agreed International Civil Aviation Organisation specifications.

De Juniac also highlighted the need for governments to follow a globally consistent and reliable system for slot allocation and warned against the dangers of slot auctioning.
