Project description
A Norway-based electricity firm, Aqua Energy, is to revamp the dilapidated hydro dams located in Shiroro and Kainji dams in Niger state.
The company will build ten stations in the first phase, run the Zungeru hydroelectric power station on a build-operate-and-transfer basis, design and build all sizes of hydropower stations in the country, in line with the renewable energy master plan; build new hyper-modern mini and small power stations between 400 kW and 50 MW.
These projects will reportedly be executed along some selected rivers and small dams in the country, and provide clean water by building water treatment plants from the company’s own technology.
Value
$5-billion, about $2 billion will be used in the first eight years. This will be increased to $3-billion over a period of ten years.
