JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Following the completion of the acquisition of Gold Fields' Malian assets, Hummingbird has appointed a project development team for the Yanfolila gold project, in Southern Mali.

Mechanical engineer Charles Graham, who had led the project’s technical studies, including the derisking study, would head the Yanfolila project team for over two years.

He boasted 15 years' experience in mining projects and played a significant role in the development of the Dikulushi and Ruashi Etoile copper projects, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Graham was also involved in the development of the Afrikander lease carbon-in-leach gold and Smokey Hills platinum projects, in South Africa, as well as the Loulo and Syama gold projects, in Mali.

Most recently, he was project director on several projects for Gold Fields.

“The appointment of Charles and his team is key to the quick delivery of the Yanfolila project. They have lived and breathed the project and we have got to know them well over the due diligence period. We look forward to them joining Hummingbird as we focus on moving Yanfolila into production over the next 18 months,” commented CEO Dan Betts.
