Quebec-focused junior Maple Gold Mines on Monday announced the immediate departure of Matthew Hornor as president, CEO and director of the company.

Chairperson Michelle Roth said that the independent directors had “unanimously concluded that a leadership transition is in the best interest of the company’s shareholders and stakeholders".

Maple’s stock fell 6% on the news, trading at C0.075 a share.

CFO Kiran Patankar has been appointed interim president ad CEO. Michael Rukus, current corporate controller of Maple, has been named interim CFO to fill the vacancy created by Patankar’s appointment.

Maple stated that Patankar’s appointment would ensure a smooth transition and operational continuity while the board pursued an "activity strategy to unlock value through prudent capital allocation and disciplined exploration and development of the company’s district-scale gold projects located in Quebec”.

Maple is in a 50:50 joint venture with Agnico Eagle Mines to jointly advance the district-scale Douay and Joutel gold projects.
