Now, more than ever before, as South Africa faces the challenges of the coronavirus, vulnerable communities across South Africa are in need of warmth and comfort. HomeChoice, South Africa’s largest home-shopping retailer, and Cape Town City Disaster Risk Management have come together in a concerted effort to bring relief to the sick, elderly and people in shelters across the Western Cape.

HomeChoice has donated over R6 million worth of blankets to people in need across the Western Cape. Over 7,000 blankets have been donated to Disaster Risk Management, and 4,080 of these blankets will be distributed across three temporary homeless sites in the Western Cape area on Friday. The rest of the blankets will be distributed by Disaster Risk Management over the coming weeks to various vulnerable communities. 250 blankets have also been donated to the elderly, through Noah House.

“Our close involvement with underprivileged communities in the Western Cape, through the HomeChoice Development Trust, has made us very aware of the effects the lockdown is having on our most vulnerable communities and we’re doing our best to support them during this time”, said Gerhard Hayes, Retail CEO of HomeChoice.
