PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Spain-focused Highfield Resources has reported a maiden indicated resource of 41.8-million tonnes, and an inferred resource of 40.3-million tonnes, grading between 10.5% and 10.5% potash at its Sierra del Perdon potash project.

The project was also estimated to have an exploration target of between 50-million and 100-million tonnes of sylvinite at between 10% to 14% potash, and between 100-million and 250-million tonnes of carnalite, at between 9% and 13% potash.

“While our focus remains on our flagship Muga potash project, we are in a fantastic position to have a second project that we believe is also likely to be very compelling,” said Highfield MD Anthony Hall.

The Sierra del Perdon project is located some 40 km from the Muga potash project, where a definitive feasibility study recently estimated that the project could produce 1.123-million tonnes a year of granular potash, over a mine life of 24 years.

Highfield said it was completing a scoping study at Sierra del Perdon, and would release the results of this study before the end of the quarter.
