PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Tungsten miner Hazelwood Resources has launched an engineering prefeasibility study into its Mount Mulgine tungsten project, in Western Australia.

The study would be used to progress the economic evaluation of the project as a potential source of feedstock for Hazelwood’s downstream refining business at the ATC Ferrotungsten project, in Vietnam.

A previous engineering study, conducted in 1974, suggested that the Mt Mulgine project could support a 330 000 t/y concentrator and the development of a small underground mining operation.

The new study would derive updated capital expenditure and operating expenditure estimates for a concentrator, and would provide inputs for the estimation of an ore reserve and the development of a mining plan.

The study would also identify development opportunities that took nearby infrastructure into account.
