Name and Location
Gumusut-Kakap field development project, Malaysia.
Client
Shell – operator (33%), ConocoPhillips Sabah (33%), Petronas Carigali (20%) and Murphy Sabah Oil (14%).
Project Description
The Gumusut-Kakap field is located in waters of up to 1 200 m deep.
The production system will have a design capacity of 150 000 bbl/d and an expected production of 135 000 bbl/d once it is in full production, contributing up to 25% of Malaysia’s oil production.
The development employs Malaysia’s first deep-water semisubmersible production system.
The project uses Shell Smart Fields technology to carefully control production from the undersea wells to achieve greater efficiency. Natural gas that is produced along with the oil will be re-injected into the reservoir to help improve oil recovery.
Oil is transported to the Sabah oil and gas terminal onshore at Kimanis, Malaysia, through a 200-km-long pipeline.
