Name and Location
Green Giant Molo graphite project, Madagascar.

Client
Energizer Resources.

Project Description
A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on the project envisages a conventional openpit mining method using trucks and loaders, with a capacity of 1.17-million tonnes a year of ore at 92% availability, with an average head grade of 8.5%.

The processing will entail three-stage crushing, followed by a primary milling and flotation separation circuit. The resultant flake graphite concentrate will be thickened, dried, separated into various flake sizes, packaged and stored before shipment. The final residue generated by the flotation process will generate a clean, nonacidic tailing. The concentrate production is estimated at an average of 84 000 t/y of graphite concentrate, with an average specification of 92%.

Value
The estimated capital cost for the project is $162.04-million.

Duration
Production is slated for 2015.

Latest Developments
Energizer announced in October that it had commissioned and started up the pilot plant the Molo graphite project.

The pilot plant was designed and built and is being operated by SGS Canada, in Lakefield, Ontario.

Two hundred tonnes of composite graphite ore was transported in September from the Molo deposit through existing, serviceable infrastructure to SGS in preparation for the pilot plant. Representatives from Caracle Creek International Consulting (CCIC) were on site to ensure the ore extracted from the Molo deposit was a true representative sample of the mill feed that would eventually be treated in the future processing plant and that the ore would satisfy the required standards for use in the upcoming bankable feasibility study (BFS). CCIC was the qualified person for the PEA study and will also be retained as the qualified person for the upcoming BFS.

The pilot plant will enable Energizer to optimise flake size, quality and purity to meet the various specifications that have been requested by several potential offtake partners. This, in turn, will enable them to adequately evaluate the finished Molo graphite concentrate and its ability to meet the requirements of their customers.
The pilot plant will also provide key operational data that will be used to generate process design criteria for the BFS.
