Location
The project is located on the Sanaga river between Yaoundé and Douala in the eastern Littoral region, in Cameroon.

The project is under development by Hydromine as an independent power producer, in cooperation with the Cameroon government.

Project Description
The project includes the development, design, financing, construction and operation of the Grand Eweng project.

The project comprises a dam and reservoir, with a hydroelectric facility, and will be financed and commissioned in phases.

The first phase is expected to add about 1 000 MW of installed capacity, generating more than 7 000 GW/h on average a year.

The full future potential installed capacity of the site will be up to 1 800 MW producing 9 000 GW/h on average a year.

The power will contribute to meeting Cameroon’s national electricity demand that is expected to be more than 3 300 MW by 2030, which may reach 4 000 MW with high growth.

Latest Developments
Hydromine, the Cameroon government and Eneo Cameroon signed a letter of intent (LoI) for the project in July this year.

The LoI defines the cooperation among the parties to finalise the terms of a power purchase agreement between the Grand Eweng project company to be formed and under the supervision of the Cameroon Ministry of Water and Energy, for the sale of the electricity produced by the project.

In addition, the LoI establishes the framework and certain milestones for the development of the project on a build, own, operate and transfer model, which transfers Grand Eweng to the State after the concession term.
