Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has embarked on a previously announced official trip to China.

He is leading a delegation to meet with his counterparts in the Chinese government as part of efforts to fast-track the delivery of locomotives and spare parts by the Chinese State-owned CRRC e-Loco to South African rail operator Transnet Freight Rail.

Gordhan is hopeful that talks with his Chinese counterparts will yield positive results in the interest of both State-owned companies and, in particular, ensure effective and efficient South African logistics and network services for the benefit of country’s economy, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) notes in a statement.

SCOPA MEETING

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has rescheduled meetings arising out of former Eskom Group CE André de Ruyter’s appearance before the committee owing to the unavailability of some of the people required for the meetings.

The committee has been informed that Pravin Gordhan, is on official business abroad, as alluded to above, while the Eskom board has requested additional time and Presidential Advisor Dr Sydney Mufamadi, is on official business abroad.

The committee has re-scheduled meetings arising out of de Ruyter’s appearance as follows: on May 9, the committee will be briefed on Eskom-related matters by the Special Investigating Unit, the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations and the National Commissioner of the South African Police Services.

On May 10, the committee will meet with the Eskom board.

On May 17, the committee will meet with Gordan and on May 23m the committee will meet with Mufamadi.
