Global EPC group sets up shop in S Africa

Black & Veach regional GM for business development Webb Meko and Black & Veach energy operations manager Joseph Mahendran
Global engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) group Black & Veatch has established a local subsidiary in Johannesburg, ascribing its decision to set up a permanent base in South Africa as reflective of its commitment to providing reliable infrastructure solutions in sub-Saharan Africa.
“The ambitious infrastructure development programmes in sub-Saharan Africa align with our existing strengths and are a vital element of Black & Veatch’s continued global growth.
“The formation of this locally based, employee-owned entity, allows us to build on a more than 50-year presence in the region,” commented Black & Veatch South Africa CFO Karen Daniel.
Black & Veatch South Africa regional GM for business development Webb Meko added that there were several local infrastructure opportunities available to the group.
“This step reflects Africa’s growing commitment to be a key market for global business. As a full service EPC and consulting services provider, we look forward to addressing some of Africa’s most critical infrastructure challenges,” he held.
The group had been involved in the construction of Ghana’s first independent power producer simple-cycle EPC project and was currently supporting the development of the 4 800 MW supercritical coal-fired Kusile power plant.
