GladAfrica Group Media Statement
This article has been supplied.
GladAfrica has noted the resolution of the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality Council to initiate an investigation into the process which resulted in our appointment to provide project management support to the City.
We welcome the Council resolution as we believe this will put to rest any doubt regarding the process followed. We offer our full cooperation and support to the process.
In the past month, GladAfrica has been the subject of negative media reports regarding the contract we entered into with the City of Tshwane. The media reports, with the initial article published by the Sunday Times on 12 August 2018, insinuated unethical practices regarding the process which led to our appointment.
The media report contained grossly inaccurate information, portraying our company in a negative light and harming our good name in the process.
On 15 August 2018, the City of Tshwane hosted a media conference which was addressed by both the Executive Mayor and the City Manager. At that conference, the City sought to clarify the process followed by officials in appointing GladAfrica Project Managers (Pty) Ltd to provide project management support. The City further made the relevant procurement information available to the public. Despite these efforts, negative media reports continue to wrongly and unfairly implicate GladAfrica in perceived wrong-doing.
In response to these continuous assaults on our good name and reputation, on the 5th of September 2018, we have taken a decision to request the Gauteng Ethics Advisory Council to probe the process undertaken by GladAfrica Project Managers (Pty) Ltd in bidding for the contract in question.
It is important to clarify that this is not a request to investigate the process undertaken by the City of Tshwane
As a growing South African owned company with a responsibility to over 216 staff, we are concerned that these inaccurate media reports are negatively impacting our business and our professional standing.
We believe that this process, together with the probe initiated by the Council of the City of Tshwane, will bring closure to this matter and help in the restoration of our good name and reputation built over 16 years.
GladAfrica Group remains committed to upholding and promoting our founding values of Integrity, Accountability, Commitment, Diligence and Respect in the course of doing business with all our stakeholders. The company continues to inculcate a culture of good corporate governance practices among all our employees and we shall not compromise on carrying this principle with us wherever we go.
