Project Description
The project involves the design, construction, ownership, financing, operation and maintenance of a high-efficiency desalination facility with 42-million imperial gallons of potable water output, based on seawater reverse osmosis technology.
The desalination plant will have a treatment capacity of 190 000 m3/d.
The plant will be located next to existing water production facilities. Power for the plant will be drawn from the national grid.

$350-million.
Duration
The project is to be developed on a fast-track basis to achieve production by October 2014.

Mott MacDonald has been named owner’s engineer for the Ghubrah project.
A consortium led by Malakoff International, including Sumitomo Corporation and Cadagua, is developing the seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility.
The consultancy will review the engineering, procurement and construction contractor’s design and supervise the construction, commissioning and testing of the plant. Configuration of the plant includes submerged seawater intake and outfall, dissolved air flotation, dual-media filtration, cartridge filtration, double-pass reverse osmosis, remineralisation through carbon dioxide and lime dosing, fluoridation and chlorination.
