Project Description
The project involves the large-scale, commercial production of green hydrogen, which will be supplied to industrial customers.

RWE plans to build 300 MW of electrolysis capacity in three expansion stages on the site of the Emsland gas-fired power plant. At full load, the plant will be able to produce 5.6 t of green hydrogen an hour.

The first 100 MW of electrolysis capacity is scheduled to go into operation in 2025.

RWE received a funding commitment totalling €492-million from the German federal government and the state of Lower Saxony on July 15, 2024, to implement the project.
