Project Description
As a result of continuing demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) worldwide and the abundance of natural gas in the US, Freeport LNG is planning to add a fourth natural gas liquefaction unit to the three trains already under construction. This expansion will allow for the export of an additional five-million tons of LNG a year, increasing the total export capability of all four trains to more than twenty-million tons of LNG a year.
Similar to Trains 1, 2 and 3, Train 4 will use all-electric motors, resulting in negligible incremental emissions.
The fourth liquefaction train will be built adjacent to the first three trains on Quintana Island, with only minimal modifications to the existing authorised facilities on the island.
Value
Train 4 will require an investment of more than $3-billion.
Duration
Subject to regulatory approvals, construction of Train 4 is expected to begin in late 2016, with the new facilities scheduled to become operational in early 2020.
