Gauteng Premier David Makhura has appointed former National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) CEO Phindile Baleni as director-general (DG) in the Office of the Premier.

Engineering News Online reported on Monday that Baleni had resigned after four years at the helm of Nersa “to pursue other interests”.

Makhura said in a statement on Tuesday that Baleni brought a wealth of experience in senior management leadership and in the management of complex and diverse projects.

“On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, I wish Phindile well in her new role as the DG and we are confident that she will provide strategic leadership to the civil service and, at the same time, offer valuable advice to the executive council as we pursue our programme for radical transformation, modernisation and reindustrialisation,” he commented.
