FNB highlights role of financial institutions in accelerating Africa's energy transition
FNB retail sustainability and ESG solutions head Kival Singh spoke to Engineering News at the Solar & Storage Live Africa 2026 exhibition about how the financial services provider is helping its customers improve energy resilience, reduce costs and integrate renewable energy more effectively.
At the Solar & Storage Live Africa 2026 event, financial services provider FNB is showcasing how financial institutions can play a practical role in accelerating South Africa and the rest of Africa’s energy transition, not only by selling technology, but by enabling access, trust, and long‑term value.
Across the continent, rising electricity costs, grid constraints and energy uncertainty are driving strong demand for solar and storage solutions. While adoption is growing, the real challenge lies in affordability, credible suppliers and informed decision‑making. These factors increasingly shape how households and businesses approach renewable-energy solutions and investments.
Engineering News interviewed FNB retail sustainability and ESG solutions head Kival Singh at the event, where FNB’s focus is on empowering customers through education, appropriate financing and rigorous supplier vetting. By helping customers better understand their energy consumption, structure funding responsibly and work with trusted installers, renewable energy becomes a more accessible and sustainable long-term investment, rather than a short‑term reaction to energy pressures.
From residential to small and medium enterprises, and commercial segments, the emphasis is on improving energy resilience, reducing long‑term costs and ensuring systems are appropriately sized to deliver meaningful returns.
Looking ahead, opportunities for solar and energy storage across the continent remain significant. Unlocking this potential growth will depend on collaborative ecosystems in which finance, technology and trusted implementation partners come together to deliver inclusive, scalable and economically viable energy solutions.
