Name and Location
Floating photovoltaic (PV) power project, South Korea.

Client
Korea South-East Power Company (Kosep), Topsun Company and the government of Jeollanam-do.

Project Description
The project will involve the construction of a 100 MW floating PV system off the shore of Hai island and Sini island, in Jeollanam-do.

A floating PV system can generate a 10% higher output than a land-based PV system as seawater reflects sunlight and helps increase generation. Further, its cool temperature helps cool down the solar cell temperature. The project is expected to be completed in three phases. Phase 1 involves a 100 kW test prototype project, which will expand in scale to 100 MW.

Value
About $434.68-million.

Duration
Phase 1 is expected to start in May 2015.
