Telecommunications service provider Vumatel has secured the support of five more suburbs for the roll-out of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks in their neighbourhoods.

Deployment was set to kick off in Emmarentia this month, while the deployment of FTTH would start in Forest Town, Parktown, Gallo Manor and Melrose in the first quarter of next year.

These neighbourhoods joined Northcliff, Sharonlea, Hyde Park and Olivedale where high-speed fibre connectivity would go live next year.

Trenching was currently under way in Blairgowrie, Victory Park, Linden, Hurlingham, Glenadrienne, Willowild, Riepen Park and Bryanston, with Parkhurst, Parktown North, Greenside, Killarney, Riviera, Saxonwold and Parkwood already live.

Vumatel was currently determining the appetite of more than 70 neighbourhoods for FTTH, requiring at least 30% nonbinding acknowledgement of interest before deploying fibre to the area.
