PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Five people have been injured in an explosion at diversified miner Anglo American’s Grosvenor coal mine, in Queensland, the miner confirmed on Wednesday.

The miner said in a statement to Mining Weekly Online that the mine was in the process of being evacuated and operations have been stopped, while those injured have been transported to hospital.

Emergency response at the mine is currently under way, and the Mines Inspectorate has been contacted.

The ABC on Wednesday reported that the Queensland Ambulance Services had arrived at the mine site shortly after 3:00 pm, with the five injured workers taken to the Moranbah Hospital, suffering from burns to their upper bodies and airways.

All other staff at the mine have been accounted for, and the families of those injured have been contacted.
