PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The results from a positive scoping study into the Tampia gold project, in Western Australia, have prompted owner Explaurum to start a prefeasibility study (PFS) on the project.

The junior told shareholders on Thursday that the results from the scoping study provided a clear direction for the company to pursue, as well as strongly favourable indications of the project’s future potential.

“The principal purpose of the study was to clearly justify commitment to the next stage of exploration and development. The project has substantially grown in its potential over the past six months following the past two drilling campaigns and, as such, we were required to expand the study to determine the preferred development option of either establishing a predominantly standalone operation at the project site, or having the high-grade mineralisation treated at another producer’s operations nearby,” said Explaurum MD John Lawton.

Explaurum’s immediate focus is a major exploration and drilling programme, which is scheduled to start shortly, and which aims to update the current mineral resource in the second half of 2017.

The updated mineral resource will feed into a PFS, which is targeted for completion in the second half of 2017.

The Tampia project consists of 13 tenements covering some 240 km2.
