PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Evolution Mining has resumed mining at its Red Lake gold mine, in Ontario.

The company last week halted production and evacuated staff members at Red Lake due to the threat of a nearby forest fire.

The miner on Tuesday said that the fire was safely contained before reaching the townships, and that all residents of the broader Red Lake community, including employees and contractors, were safe.

No damage has been reported at any of the operation’s infrastructure, and Evolution told shareholders that re-entry into the underground and processing areas have been progressing smoothly.

The miner has maintained the production outlook for the September quarter at Red Lake.

The former Goldcorp mine, which Evolution bought from Newmont last year, is forecast to produce 125 000 oz to 135 000 oz in the 2021 financial year to the end of June next year.

Evolution is executing a transformation plan for Red Lake, which executive chairperson Jake Klein has described as the “most transformative opportunity” in the mining company’s history.

Last week, the gold miner announced an 11-million ounce mineral resource for Red Lake.
