Eskom has resumed the import of the full daily 1 500 MW of electricity from Cahora Bassa, following the completion of repairs to the converter at the Apollo substation, in Midrand, earlier this week.

The utility on Monday warned of a tight electricity system following the loss of 220 MW of power imports as a result of a technical fault on one of the eight converters at the substation.

“Eskom is pleased to announce that the converter at the Apollo substation in Midrand that experienced a technical fault early this week was returned to service last night, three days ahead of schedule,” it said on Wednesday.

An investigation into the root cause of the technical fault was still under way.
