Communications technology and services company Ericsson has been awarded a five-year, multicountry contract to manage Etisalat Group subsidiary Atlantique Telecom’s mobile networks in Western and Central Africa.

The managed services agreement tasked Ericsson with managing the network operations, field maintenance, network optimisation and spare parts management for Etisalat' s multivendor mobile networks and included access, core and transmission and value-added services.

Atlantique Telecom currently had operations in Benin, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Niger and Togo.

Ericsson head of sub-Saharan Africa region Lars Lindén said the contract would result in an improved network benefiting up to ten-million Atlantique Telecom subscribers.

Atlantique Telecom CEO Nagi Abboud said the company aimed to develop its offerings based on value-added services to its growing subscriber base, taking into account the specific requirements of each consumer and providing solutions tailored to their expectations.

“With the evolution of the competitive landscape in our markets, we need to adapt our operating model to provide a better service to our end-users,” he commented.
